2-Month-Old Baby Dies in Fire Outbreak at Madina

A tragic fire outbreak has claimed the life of a two-month-old baby in the La Nkwantanang area of Madina, after flames swept through several container homes in a densely populated slum settlement.

Eyewitnesses say the fire started from a gas explosion in one of the shops and quickly spread to nearby structures, destroying everything in its path.

A resident, Mary Abgavetor, told Adom News that the incident occurred when a woman cooking with a gas stove left her food unattended to visit a friend.

“The baby was inside the room when the fire began. The mother first went to fetch her bag before attempting to rescue the child, but by the time she returned, the fire had already engulfed the entire container,” she explained.

Since the incident, residents have not seen the baby, and reports indicate that the mother collapsed from shock after realizing her child was trapped.

Several other residents also suffered losses, with some reporting that bags of beans and rice, along with gallons of cooking oil and personal belongings, were destroyed in the blaze.
