Ballot Positions Unchanged Despite GFP Flagbearer’s Disqualification – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that the initial ballot order for the 2024 presidential election will remain unchanged, despite the recent disqualification of the Ghana Freedom Party’s (GFP) candidate, Philip Appiah Kubi.

EC Chairperson Jean Mensa announced during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Tuesday, 12 November, stressing that the decision aligns with the Commission’s commitment to ensuring a smooth electoral process.
Ms Mensa further clarified that the disqualification of the GFP candidate does not impact the established ballot structure, thus no alterations to the ballot order will be made.
Additionally, she mentioned that the ballot paper will still include the image and name of Akua Donkor.
This continuity, she explained, is essential to avoid delays as the election nears.
In her address to party representatives, Ms Mensa revealed that the printing of presidential ballots is already 90 percent complete, underscoring the EC’s determination to meet all critical deadlines in preparation for the upcoming vote.
“This morning, we are here to inform you of the Commission’s decision to maintain the presidential ballot as it is. As you may be aware since you have representatives in the printing houses, we are almost 90 percent complete with the printing of presidential ballots,” she stated.
