Chaos In Parliament Is Unacceptable, Shameful And Shouldn’t Have Happened – Rhoda Osei-Afful
The Senior Research Analyst at CDD-Ghana, Rhoda Osei-Afful, has condemned the chaos that erupted in Parliament during the Appointments Committee’s meeting on Thursday, 30th January.
Contributing to a panel discussion on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, 1st February, Rhoda Osei-Afful described the scenes as “shameful, unnecessary, and unacceptable,” adding that such behaviour should never occur in a democratic institution like Parliament.
She expressed her disappointment over the disruption, which she argued reflected poorly on the country’s governance system.
She emphasised that Parliament should be a space for constructive debate and decision-making, not for disorder or violence.
“It is unacceptable for Parliament, which is supposed to represent the people’s voice, to descend into chaos. This not only undermines public trust but also sends the wrong message about our democracy,” she stated.
The CDD-Ghana analyst noted that while tensions between the Majority and Minority parties are to be expected, the level of disruption witnessed during the vetting process went too far.
She stressed the importance of ensuring that parliamentary procedures are followed in a manner that respects the dignity of the institution and the rule of law.
Madam Osei-Afful also highlighted the urgent need for greater accountability and transparency in parliamentary proceedings.
She called for improved communication and respect between lawmakers, which would help prevent such incidents in the future and ensure that the business of Parliament continues in an orderly and efficient manner.
