‘Where We Have Gone Wrong, Forgive Us’ – IGP Apologises To Bawku Naba

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has issued a heartfelt apology to the people of Bawku, acknowledging public concerns regarding the conduct of police officers and reaffirming the police service’s commitment to neutrality and peace in the area.
The IGP offered the apology during a visit to the Bawku Naba on Friday, April 11, 2025.
“Where we have gone wrong, please forgive us. We ask the people of Bawku to forgive us for any shortcomings in the course of our duties,” he said.
“We assure you that we will assign men and women to work here who will remain neutral. And if you feel that any of our officers have acted inappropriately and you wish to raise it with us, we are ready to listen,” he added.
Yohuno emphasised that officers have been given clear instructions to operate with strict impartiality.
“We have consistently instructed our personnel to be completely neutral in the discharge of their duties. As human beings, we may falter, but where we have gone wrong, we sincerely ask for forgiveness,” the IGP said.
He also urged the people of Bawku to continue viewing the police as allies in the restoration of peace.
“Please continue to accept us as your children who are here to help Bawku return to its former glory,” he noted.
The IGP highlighted Ghana’s proud track record in international peacekeeping, referencing the country’s contributions to global missions in Bosnia, Cambodia, Lebanon, and Liberia.
“We have helped maintain peace in other international communities, and we believe we can do the same for Bawku. Our primary objective is to ensure lasting peace in the town. Our intention is to remain neutral in our operations and support the people of Bawku in achieving peace before our mission concludes.”
