A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has sharply criticised the party’s decision to elect a presidential candidate ahead of restructuring its internal leadership, describing the move as both unconstitutional and strategically misguided.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe argued that proceeding with the flagbearer election before selecting new national, regional, constituency, and polling station executives violates the procedures outlined in the NPP’s constitution.
He warned that disregarding the party’s own rules signals weak leadership and deepening internal dysfunction.
“In a party that has just lost a major election, it is essential to first conduct a thorough evaluation of what went wrong. Rushing to elect a presidential candidate without sincere introspection is a grave mistake,” he stated. “This process seems deliberately skewed to favour a particular individual, while ignoring legitimate concerns raised by respected party members.”
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe also questioned the credibility of the current leadership, holding them responsible for the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections. He asserted that these executives lack the moral authority and legitimacy to oversee the critical reorganisation the party urgently needs.
“The very leadership that oversaw the party’s defeat cannot be trusted to manage a credible process aimed at reclaiming power in 2028,” he said.
He concluded by urging the party to adopt a transparent and inclusive approach that strictly follows its constitutional provisions if it hopes to rebuild and regain public trust.
