The Atwima Techiman and Denkyemuoso Traditional Council has staged a massive demonstration to draw the government’s attention to the deplorable state of their roads in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Clad in red attire and armbands, the demonstrators, led by Nana Tieku Owusu Ansah II, Atwima Akyeamehene, marched through the community amid chants and placards demanding immediate action. They expressed deep frustration over what they described as years of neglect and abandonment of the road project, which has left residents battling numerous challenges.

According to the chief, contractors from Asabea Construction Company began work by demolishing structures, including parts of the palace, to make way for the project, but later abandoned the site without explanation.

“Asabea came here and unroofed all the houses along the road, including our palace, to pave the way for construction. Yet, they left without addressing our concerns — and now, they don’t even respond to our calls,” Nana Tieku Owusu Ansah II lamented.

Residents say the poor state of the road has worsened transportation difficulties, increased vehicle maintenance costs, and caused severe health problems due to dust and potholes.

A 70-year-old resident, Aunty Adwoa Manu, recounted how the dusty conditions have aggravated her chronic illness.

“The dust makes it difficult for me to breathe. Each time a car passes, I’m forced to stay indoors. It’s affecting my health badly,” she said.

The community is calling on the government and relevant authorities to intervene urgently and ensure the completion of the abandoned road project to ease their suffering and restore hope to the area.
