A young importer has lost his life in a tragic accident at the Golden Jubilee Terminal of the Tema Harbour after being crushed by a container-handling machine during offloading operations.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when a reach stacker was reversing as part of routine port activities. The victim, who was reportedly standing behind the heavy-duty machine, was knocked down and trapped beneath its massive tires.
Witnesses described the scene as distressing, as workers and bystanders rushed to rescue the victim but were unable to save him due to the severity of his injuries.
Port authorities and emergency response teams later arrived to cordon off the area and recover the body.
Investigations are expected to be launched to determine the circumstances leading to the fatal incident and to assess possible safety lapses at the terminal.
