The President of the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, Kormantse, Rev. Dr. John Kobina Boakye, has cautioned prophets and men of God to exercise restraint and wisdom in their conduct during election periods, particularly with regard to public prophecies.

According to Rev. Dr. Boakye, prophetic declarations about election outcomes, when made public, often generate unnecessary tension and anxiety within the country. He therefore appealed to prophets to refrain from publicly declaring election-related prophecies and instead focus on prayer.

He explained that the primary role of prophets during elections is to pray for the nation and its leaders, and to seek God’s guidance for the emergence of good and competent leaders, rather than attempting to predict or announce who will win an election.

Rev. Dr. Boakye made these remarks while speaking to the media during the Seminary’s Bible Week celebration at Kormantse.

“The work of prophets during elections is to pray, not to ask God to reveal who should be the leader,” he stated.

“Leadership in a democracy is determined through the electoral process. It is the responsibility of citizens to assess the character and competence of those seeking leadership and choose the best among them.”

He further urged prophets to act with caution and spiritual maturity, stressing that even when a prophet believes God has revealed an outcome to them, such revelations should be handled discreetly.
“Even if God reveals the winner to you, it is better to pray with the congregation for God’s will to prevail, rather than making such prophecies public,” he advised.

Rev. Dr. Boakye added that where a prophecy concerns a specific individual, it should be communicated privately to the person involved instead of being broadcast publicly, as public declarations often fuel political tension and division.

He emphasized that the Church has a critical role to play in promoting peace, unity, and national stability, especially during sensitive periods such as elections, and called on prophets to use their spiritual influence responsibly for the good of the nation.
