The CEO of Ghana GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, has dismissed allegations of inflated costs and procurement breaches in the Big Push road initiative, describing the claims as misleading and unsupported by evidence.

Reacting to a report by The Fourth Estate, Mr Gyamfi insisted that there is no proof of wrongdoing in the award of contracts, stressing that due process was followed in all cases.

“There is not a scintilla of evidence showing that these contracts were inflated or that the process was abused,” he said, adding that all sole-sourced projects were approved by the Public Procurement Authority and subjected to Value for Money assessments.

He further criticised the inclusion of inherited projects in the report, explaining that 23 out of the 84 projects cited were originally awarded under the previous administration and were merely continued under the current government’s programme.

“Projects such as Suame Interchange and Ofankor-Nsawam were not re-awarded. They were inherited, maintained and funded. Including them in the list distorts the facts,” he argued.

Mr Gyamfi also addressed criticisms of the NDC’s position on sole-sourcing, clarifying that the party has never opposed the method itself but rather its misuse.

He noted that past criticisms were based on audit findings that exposed inflated contracts, which he said is not the case with the current projects.

He concluded that the Big Push initiative reflects a balance between urgency and accountability, with contracts awarded to multiple capable contractors and payments tied strictly to verified work done, ensuring transparency and value for money.
