Serene Insurance LTD has announced a significant support package valued at GHS22 million to bolster Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup scheduled to take place across the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
The package comprises a direct cash contribution of GHS2 million and a GHS20 million Group Personal Accident Insurance cover. The policy, which runs from June 1 to July 31, 2026, provides financial protection for players, technical staff, and selected supporters throughout the tournament period.
Under the insurance scheme, each player is covered up to GHS100,000, members of the technical team up to GHS30,000, and designated supporters up to GHS10,000. The 24-hour policy covers bodily injury or death resulting from accidents during the competition, offering a critical safety net as Ghana prepares for one of football’s most demanding global stages.
The announcement aligns with Ghana’s broader fundraising drive ahead of the World Cup, spearheaded by President John Mahama. The initiative, launched in Accra, aims to raise US$30 million to fund the team’s participation and international friendly matches.
Chief Executive Officer of Serene Insurance, Mercy Naa Koshie Boampong, described the intervention as both a corporate responsibility and a national duty. She emphasized that the Black Stars symbolize Ghana’s pride and unity, and supporting them reflects the company’s commitment to nurturing talent and safeguarding the nation’s aspirations.

Beyond its immediate financial value, the package underscores the growing role of private sector participation in sports development. As preparations intensify, such partnerships are expected to provide both financial stability and morale for the team.
The fundraising launch event brought together key stakeholders from the sports, entertainment, and business sectors, with several corporate bodies and individuals pledging support. A World Cup raffle promotion was also unveiled as part of innovative efforts to mobilize resources.
