Akyem Asuom Chief calls for 40-year opposition spell for Bawumia, NPP

Nana Obodade Amponem III, the Akyem Asuom Kontihene, has called on Ghanaians to politically reject Mahamudu Bawumia and individuals associated with the administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo, urging what he described as “40 years in the wilderness” for members of the previous government.

According to him, persons linked to the former administration should be sidelined to create room for a new generation of leadership within Ghana’s political system.

Speaking at a durbar in a video that has since gone viral, Nana Obodade Amponem III referenced the biblical book of Numbers, comparing Ghana’s political circumstances to the punishment of the Israelites in the wilderness.

“As it was in the Bible in Numbers 14, where the good Lord sentenced all the transgressing and disobeying Israelites in the wilderness, I am saying Ghanaians must sentence that generation of thieves, robbers, and looters to 40 years in the wilderness,” he stated.

He further argued that anyone who played a role in the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration, from the national leadership to regional and constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should also be held politically accountable.

“Anybody who had anything to do with President Akufo-Addo and Bawumia’s administration should be sentenced as well. Right from the national level, regional level, and even to the constituency, the NPP owes Ghana that to clean up the system and allow a new breed of people who are selfless and want to serve this country,” he said.
