The newly inducted Chairman of the Mankessim Local Council of Churches, Very Rev. Samuel Boakye Kusi-Appiah, has pledged to roll out a comprehensive skills and entrepreneurship training programme aimed at empowering young people across the Mfantseman Municipality.

The initiative, which is expected to commence in August 2026, seeks to equip unemployed and underemployed youth with practical vocational and business skills to help them become self-reliant and economically productive.

The commitment was announced during the induction service of the newly elected executives of the Mankessim Local Council of Churches.

The event was held under the theme: “Behold, How Good and How Pleasant It Is for Brethren to Dwell Together in Unity.”

The ceremony brought together clergy, traditional leaders, political authorities, and members of various Christian denominations in Mankessim and surrounding communities.

As part of the event, the newly inducted executives presented awards to outgoing officers in recognition of their dedicated service and contributions to the growth of the council.

Speaking after his induction, Very Rev. Samuel Boakye Kusi-Appiah said youth unemployment remains one of the biggest challenges confronting the Mfantseman area, and the Church has a responsibility to support practical solutions.

According to him, the council’s proposed training programme will focus on vocational and entrepreneurial development to help young people acquire employable skills and start sustainable businesses.

“We want to provide our youth with the tools they need to become self-employed and financially independent,” he stated.

He noted that the first batch of trainees is expected to begin training in August, with details on registration and available courses to be announced soon.

Very Rev. Kusi-Appiah appealed to traditional authorities, the Member of Parliament, the Municipal Chief Executive, and other opinion leaders to partner with the council in creating job opportunities and supporting the initiative.

He emphasized that collaborative efforts are essential to securing a brighter future for the youth of Mfantseman.

Beyond vocational training, the Chairman also highlighted the council’s plans to support education in the municipality.

He expressed concern over Ghana’s high illiteracy rate and said the council intends to create academic support platforms to help students prepare for examinations and pursue higher education.

“Our goal is to contribute to holistic education by supporting students at all levels,” he added.

The Omanhen of the Mankessim Traditional Area, Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI, who chaired the event, praised the vision of the Local Council of Churches.

He assured the council of his full support and pledged to share his experience and expertise with the youth to help them succeed.

“This is a laudable initiative that will have a lasting impact on our young people and the development of Mfantseman,” he said.

Delivering the sermon, the Mankessim Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Kofi Annan, urged the newly inducted executives to live up to the expectations of the Christian community and the wider society.

He stressed that the people of Mankessim are looking to the new leadership to promote unity, foster development, and deliver meaningful results.

The planned skills and entrepreneurship programme is expected to provide hundreds of young people with practical opportunities to build careers, start businesses, and contribute positively to local economic development.

With the backing of the Church, traditional leaders, and stakeholders, the initiative offers renewed hope for youth empowerment and sustainable growth in Mfantseman.
