MTN Ghana is celebrating 30 years of operations with a renewed commitment to driving Ghana’s national development through major investments in fibre infrastructure, network modernisation and sustainable digital platforms aimed at accelerating the country’s digital transformation journey.
The milestone celebration was officially launched on May 14, 2026, at MTN House in Accra under the theme, “30 Years of Progress, Powered by You.” The event brought together government officials, industry stakeholders and members of the media, including the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, described the anniversary as more than a corporate milestone, calling it a uniquely Ghanaian story built on connection, inclusion and shared progress over the past three decades.
“This is not just about towers and cables. It is about people — farmers, traders, students, nurses and entrepreneurs whose lives have been transformed through connectivity,” he stated.
Mr. Blewett said MTN Ghana is positioning itself for the next phase of Ghana’s digital economy through targeted investments in fibre expansion, core network upgrades and advanced technologies aimed at driving productivity, innovation and economic growth.
According to him, technology will increasingly power opportunities across sectors including agriculture, education, healthcare and the creative economy.
“The next phase of Ghana’s development will be built on mobile platforms — on farms, in markets, clinics, classrooms and creative studios. Technology will remove geography as a disadvantage and open Ghanaian talent to the world,” he added.

Sustainability, he noted, remains central to MTN Ghana’s long-term strategy, with ongoing investments in renewable energy solutions, responsible technology use and resilient digital infrastructure designed to support growth while protecting the environment.
Reflecting on the company’s journey since 1996, Mr. Blewett highlighted the transformative role of Mobile Money in deepening financial inclusion, empowering small businesses and becoming an integral part of everyday commerce in Ghana.
He also pointed to MTN Ghana’s contributions to national development through tax revenue, network expansion and social investments delivered by the MTN Ghana Foundation in areas such as education, health, skills development and economic empowerment.
“Connectivity is no longer a luxury. It is essential national infrastructure, and MTN Ghana has a responsibility to ensure it is reliable, inclusive and future-ready,” he said.

Delivering the keynote address, Samuel Nartey George congratulated MTN Ghana on its 30-year milestone, describing the company as a major force in Ghana’s telecommunications evolution into a modern, mobile-first and data-driven ecosystem.
The Minister cited MTN Ghana’s pioneering introduction of GSM technology, leadership in Mobile Money services, continued infrastructure investments, listing on the Ghana Stock Exchange and its role as one of Ghana’s largest corporate taxpayers.
He added that government remains committed to working with telecom operators to address key industry challenges, including rural connectivity, infrastructure protection, cybersecurity, digital skills development and environmental sustainability.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, MTN Ghana announced nationwide customer engagement activities and promotions featuring exciting prizes to reward customers who have supported the brand over the past three decades.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to its Ambition 2030 strategy, aimed at leveraging technology, partnerships and digital platforms to expand opportunities, empower young people and strengthen Ghana’s competitiveness in the global digital economy.
