MTN Ghana on Wednesday launched Season 8 of its flagship charity program, Heroes of Change, at a ceremony held at the company’s headquarters in Accra. The initiative, one of Ghana’s most celebrated humanitarian platforms, recognises individuals whose selfless work has touched lives across the country.
The launch, which forms part of MTN’s 30th anniversary celebrations, was used to renew the call to honour Ghanaians who dedicate their lives to serving others.
The event was attended by members of MTN’s management and past winners of the coveted awards. Since its inception in July 2013, Heroes of Change has rewarded and recognised ordinary Ghanaians making an extraordinary difference in their communities.
At the program, past award winners presented a giant citation to MTN to express their appreciation for supporting them at a time when no one else did. Speaking at the launch at MTN House, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN, Madam Adwoa Wiafe, said the program reflects the company’s belief that lasting progress begins with people who choose to make a difference.
Listening to the current winner, Dr Angela Dwamena-Aboagye of the Ark Foundation, and the other finalists reminds us that there are people who wake up every day, not because they are paid to serve, but because they believe someone else’s life can be better,” she said.
Madam. Wiafe noted that Heroes of Change aligns with MTN’s 30th anniversary theme, ‘30 Years of Progress, Powered by You’, and the company’s Sustainability Month theme, ‘Together for a Sustainable Future: Small Actions, Big Impact’. She added that beyond providing connectivity, MTN believes every Ghanaian deserves dignity and to be seen.
Over the past 7 seasons, more than 100 heroes have been recognised, while the MTN Ghana Foundation has delivered over 178 major projects impacting about 5 million lives.
In a major boost for this year, MTN announced an increase in prize money.

The overall winner will now receive GH¢400,000, up from GH¢200,000.
The first runner-up will receive GH¢200,000, while each finalist will get GH¢100,000.
New special awards for sustainability and digital innovation, as well as recognition for nominators, were also introduced.
These awards are not payment for past work; they are investments in the future impact our heroes will continue to make,” Madam Wiafe stated.
She urged Ghanaians to nominate quiet changemakers in their communities who are teaching, healing, mentoring, or transforming lives. “It is my pleasure to officially declare MTN Heroes of Change Season 8 launched,” she concluded.
