Middle-Aged Woman, Two Children Trapped After Fig Tree Blocks Home Entrance In Wa

A middle-aged woman and her two children were trapped inside their home for nearly three hours after a massive fig tree fell and blocked the main entrance of their building in Wa, Upper West Region.

The tree, uprooted by a violent windstorm, completely sealed off all exit points, leaving the family stranded. They were eventually rescued by a relative after making distress calls to emergency services, friends, and other family members.

Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Issah Nurah Danwanaa, who visited the scene, said the assembly is working with relevant agencies to identify and remove old and potentially dangerous trees across the municipality to avert similar incidents.

He noted that Wa has experienced a series of intense windstorms over the past month, which have uprooted several large trees and caused property damage running into thousands of Ghana cedis.

JoyNews’ Upper West Regional correspondent, Rafik Salam, was at the scene and documented the dramatic rescue as it unfolded.
