Adutwum Declares Intent to Contest NPP 2028 Flagbearer Race [VIDEO]

Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, Minister of Education

Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe and former Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has officially declared his intention to contest for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 18, Dr. Adutwum announced his readiness to enter the race once the party formally opens nominations.

“With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party,” he wrote.

Dr. Adutwum, widely recognized for his contributions to Ghana’s education reforms, becomes one of the latest high-ranking NPP members to express interest in leading the party into the next election cycle.

While former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia remains a strong contender, having won the party’s 2023 flagbearer race, other prominent figures such as Kennedy Agyapong and Bryan Acheampong are also expected to join the race.

Dr. Adutwum’s declaration follows closely on the heels of the NPP’s announcement that its next presidential primary will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026—setting the stage for a highly anticipated leadership contest.
