Baako Yussif’s Office Calls for Calm Following Arrest of Bawku Naaba

Office of Baako Yussif Expresses Deep Concern Over Arrest of Bawku Naaba and Escalating Insecurity

The Office of Baako Yussif, Aspirant Parliamentary Candidate for the Bawku Central Constituency, has expressed grave concern over the recent arrest of the Bawku Naaba, Alhaji Seidu Abagre, by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), an operation which has reportedly resulted in the loss of innocent lives and heightened insecurity within the Bawku Municipality.

In a statement issued on Thursday, December 25, 2025, Mr. Yussif noted that the manner in which the arrest was carried out has deepened tensions in an already fragile security environment, further endangering the lives and livelihoods of innocent residents.

“The Office of Baako Yussif has taken serious note of the arrest of the Bawku Naaba, Alhaji Seidu Abagre, by the Ghana Armed Forces—an operation which has regrettably led to the loss of innocent lives and worsened the prevailing insecurity in Bawku,” the statement said.

Mr. Yussif cautioned against any actions that undermine constitutional governance and due process, stressing that mediation efforts aimed at restoring peace must not be transformed into coercive military interventions.

“Any attempt to convert mediation outcomes into coercive military action constitutes a serious distortion of law, due process, and constitutional governance,” the statement emphasized.
He reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful dialogue, justice, and lawful conflict resolution, underscoring that lasting peace in Bawku can only be achieved through respect for truth, accountability, and constitutional order—not violence.

Addressing the people of Bawku directly, Mr. Yussif appealed for calm and restraint in the face of provocation and uncertainty.

“To the good people of Bawku, I urge calm, restraint, and strict adherence to the rule of law. Justice is not achieved through violence, but through truth, accountability, and constitutional order,” he stated.

He further called on security agencies, traditional authorities, political actors, and all stakeholders to act responsibly and prioritize the protection of innocent lives while working collaboratively toward a sustainable and peaceful resolution to the long-standing conflict in the area.

The Office of Baako Yussif reiterated its solidarity with the people of Bawku and reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for peace, justice, and inclusive dialogue in the interest of national unity and development.
