Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has expressed profound gratitude to Allah, his supporters, and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after emerging victorious in the party’s parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
Speaking after the official declaration of results on Saturday, February 7, 2026, Baba Jamal described the victory as an act of divine grace, noting that the journey to securing the party’s ticket was both demanding and emotionally taxing—not only for himself, but also for his family and campaign team.
He extended appreciation to the party’s national leadership, the Presidency, ministers of state, Members of Parliament, media practitioners, and constituents who supported him throughout the contest.
Baba Jamal paid special tribute to his campaign team, praising their dedication and resilience in mobilising support within a limited time frame. He described the campaign period as one of the most challenging phases of his political career, marked by intense engagement and personal sacrifice.
The former Deputy Minister also congratulated his fellow aspirants, stressing that the primary should serve as a unifying exercise rather than a source of division within the party.
He appealed to all contestants and their supporters to close ranks and work together as the NDC prepares for the crucial March 3, 2026, by-election.
According to him, while the primary was keenly contested, the focus must now shift toward consolidating the party’s traditional strength in Ayawaso East and securing victory in the upcoming poll.
Baba Jamal further assured party members of his accessibility, emphasizing that his doors remain open to all, including those who contested against him.
He also expressed heartfelt appreciation to his family for their patience and understanding during what he described as weeks of sacrifice and limited personal time throughout the campaign season.
In the final results, Baba Jamal secured 431 votes to win the primary, narrowly defeating Hajia Amina Adam, who polled 399 votes. Mohammed Ramne obtained 88 votes, Dr Yakubu Azindow garnered 45 votes, while Mohammed Najib Sani recorded one vote.
Ayawaso East is considered a stronghold of the NDC, and Baba Jamal’s victory positions him as the party’s flagbearer going into the March 3 by-election.
