The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to receive up to $700,000 annually from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following a 33% increase in annual financial support to its 54 member associations.

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe announced the increase, describing it as part of the continental governing body’s continued commitment to strengthening football development and making the sport more sustainable across Africa.

Under the new funding structure, each of CAF’s 54 member associations will receive up to $700,000 annually, representing a significant increase from the previous allocation of $525,000.

CAF has also increased annual funding for its zonal unions by 20%, raising their allocations from $750,000 to $900,000.

The latest adjustment marks another major boost in CAF’s financial support for football development across the continent under the leadership of Dr Motsepe and the CAF Executive Committee.

In 2021, CAF member associations received annual subventions of $200,000. The amount was subsequently doubled to $400,000 before increasing to $525,000 and now reaching $700,000.

The latest allocation represents a 250% increase compared with the 2021 funding level, highlighting CAF’s growing investment in the development of football across its member associations.

The additional funding is expected to help member associations strengthen football development structures, invest in youth and women’s football, improve administration and governance, and establish sustainable programmes.

It is also intended to create more opportunities for players, coaches, referees and other football stakeholders while helping national associations build stronger and more self-sustaining football systems.

The increased financial support forms part of CAF’s broader ambition to raise the standard of football across Africa and improve the capacity of its member associations to develop the game at all levels.
