CCTV Captures Unidentified Woman Stealing 11-Month-Old Baby At Ajumako Market

An unidentified woman, believed to be in her 50s, has been captured by CCTV running away with an 11-month-old baby at the Ajumako market centre in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District.

The footage shows the woman walking away with the baby, whom she allegedly stole from the child’s mother while she was selling cassava at the busy market.

Reports has it that, the mother of the missing child, Esi Sekyiwa from Ajumako Essaman, recounted that she had gone to the market as usual to sell cassava. Due to the scorching sun, she handed her baby to her sister-in-law while she attended to customers.

According to Esi Sekyiwa, the suspect approached them and offered to help care for the baby so they could focus on their sales. The woman reportedly sat with them for over an hour, gaining their trust.

“Before I realized, the woman and my baby were nowhere to be found,” Sekyiwa said tearfully. “We asked people around, but no one saw where she went.”

A review of the CCTV footage later revealed the woman fleeing with the child. The distraught mother has appealed to the police and the public to help locate her baby.

Family members have also called on the Ajumako District Police Command and other stakeholders to intensify efforts to find the child. They fear the suspect may intend to use the baby for ritual purposes or illegal adoption.

The family suspects the woman may be hiding in areas including Winneba, Apam, Mankessim, or the Kasoa enclave.

The incident has since been reported to the Ajumako District Police Command, which has launched an investigation into the case.
