The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region has commenced its regional-level elections, with 495 delegates expected to cast their ballots in the ongoing exercise.

The polls are being held at the Mankessim Astro Turf in the Mfantseman Constituency, which is serving as the central venue for the elections involving 21 out of the region’s 23 constituencies.

However, Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Constituency has been excluded from the exercise following an injunction, while the Mfantseman Constituency election has been nullified, preventing the two constituencies from participating in the current polls.

The development means delegates from the remaining 21 constituencies are taking part in the elections to select regional executives who will lead and coordinate the party’s activities and grassroots mobilisation in their respective areas.

Party executives, delegates and supporters have gathered at the Mankessim Astro Turf as the electoral process gets underway, with attention focused on ensuring a peaceful, transparent and credible exercise.

495 delegates are expected to participate in the voting process, which is aimed at determining the new regional-level leadership of the NPP.

The outcome of the elections is expected to have significant implications for the party’s grassroots mobilisation, internal organisation and future political activities in the Central Region.

The elections come amid heightened internal competition in several constituencies, with multiple aspirants vying for various regional executive positions.

The Mankessim exercise is therefore being closely monitored by party members, supporters and political observers, particularly as the NPP seeks to strengthen its organisational structures and rebuild its grassroots base.

Security personnel and election officials are expected to maintain order at the venue and ensure that eligible delegates are allowed to exercise their franchise in accordance with the party’s electoral guidelines.

The newly elected regional executives will be expected to play a key role in mobilising party members, strengthening communication at the grassroots and coordinating party activities within their respective constituencies.

The elections are also expected to set the tone for the NPP’s internal organisation and preparations for its upcoming political engagements.

Further updates on voter turnout, the voting process, results and developments from the Mankessim Astro Turf will be provided as the exercise progresses.
