Chiefs of Enyan Nkodwo Pledge to Combat Drug Abuse Among Youth

The chiefs of Enyan Nkodwo in the Central Region have declared their firm resolve to fight against the growing menace of drug abuse among the youth in the community. The traditional leaders emphasized that the youth represent the future of every nation and must be nurtured to take up leadership roles with integrity and discipline.

This declaration was made during a ceremony to enstool three new chiefs in the town.

Speaking to Agyei Kwaku Mensah, the newly enstooled Mbrantsehene of Enyan Nkodwo, Nana Essel Kusuda III, underscored the urgent need for the youth to lead morally upright lives if they are to achieve their aspirations. He lamented the increasing rate of drug use in the community and pledged to closely monitor the situation, while counseling the youth on the harmful consequences of drug abuse.

The new Sanaahemaa, Nana Adjoa Ansawa Baiduwa I, also pledged her commitment to tackling the issue. She noted that she will support young people to acquire employable skills to steer them away from substance abuse. She further promised to engage parents in dialogue to better understand the challenges facing their children, and appealed to natives of Enyan Nkodwo living elsewhere to return home and contribute to the development of the community.

For her part, the new Nkosuohemaa, Nana Yaa Lasiwa Takyi I, reiterated the call on the youth to refrain from drugs and urged young girls in particular to desist from roaming the streets aimlessly. She stressed the importance of collective support from both indigenes and leaders to drive development in Enyan Nkodwo.

The chiefs jointly assured the community that their reign would focus not only on promoting cultural values but also on safeguarding the future of the youth by steering them away from destructive lifestyles.
