The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has appealed to the Speaker of Parliament to exercise restraint in the vetting process of Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, until all legal proceedings surrounding the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo are concluded.

Mr Ahiagbah’s comments come in response to the Minority in Parliament’s call for the suspension of the vetting, citing ongoing court cases related to Justice Torkonoo’s exit from office.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, November 1, the NPP Communications Director emphasised the importance of patience and due process in such a sensitive constitutional matter.

“I want to appeal that the Speaker, he is a seasoned parliamentarian, a statesman, and highly respected. I think that, in this moment, he should lead and say that there is no hurry. Let’s see the finality in these cases and then move on. But until that is done, any effort now to just push this thing through, I think that would leave a bad taste,” Mr Ahiagbah remarked.
