The President of the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, Rev. Dr. John Kobina Boakye, has urged Ghanaians to refrain from immoral behaviours during the Easter festivities, emphasizing that Easter is a sacred period meant for reflection, forgiveness, and spiritual renewal.
Speaking to Agyei Kwaku Mensah on the significance of Easter, Rev. Dr. Boakye explained that the holiday is fundamentally about God’s forgiveness of sins. “Easter marks the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ for mankind, which we are called to emulate in our own lives,” he said.
He further highlighted that followers of Christ are encouraged to practice forgiveness and extend kindness to others. “Just as Jesus sacrificed Himself for humanity, we too must be willing to make sacrifices for our fellow human beings and forgive those who have wronged us,” Rev. Dr. Boakye stressed.

The cleric cautioned against common but inappropriate behaviors during Easter, noting that some people misuse the festive period for sexual indulgence, excessive drinking, and smoking. He emphasized that such actions are contrary to the true meaning of the season.
“Easter should be a time for spreading the gospel, showing love, and fostering reconciliation—not for raising money for personal gain,” he said. Rev. Dr. Boakye urged couples, families, and communities to use the period to forgive one another and strengthen bonds, reinforcing the message of hope, love, and renewal central to the Easter celebration.
