Ekumfi Breaks Ground for First-Ever District Police Headquarters

Ekumfi has marked a historic milestone in its development journey with the official sod-cutting ceremony for the district’s first Police Headquarters at Ekumfi Essakyir, the capital.

The event, held on Friday, was led by the Member of Parliament for Ekumfi, Dr. Othniel Ekow Kwainoe, who described the project as a “foundation for a safer, stronger Ekumfi.”

Addressing Long-Standing Security Gaps

For years, residents of Ekumfi have depended on police services from neighbouring towns such as Mankessim, Jedu, and Saltpond. This arrangement often led to overstretched personnel, slow response times, and heightened vulnerability of communities.

Dr. Kwainoe emphasized that the new Police Headquarters would bring policing closer to the people, ensuring timely interventions in emergencies while boosting confidence among farmers, traders, fisherfolk, students, and businesses across the district.

“Peace and security are the backbone of development. Without them, progress is delayed. This Police Headquarters will not just protect lives—it will unlock opportunities for growth,” he noted.

A Broader Vision for Development

The MP revealed that the security project forms part of his holistic development agenda for Ekumfi. Just a day before the ceremony, he distributed 35,000 coconut seedlings to farmers under a sustainable livelihood and climate resilience programme, aimed at boosting the district’s agricultural base and combating the effects of climate change.

He further assured residents of his commitment to complete the long-abandoned Essuehyia Market, which has stalled for years, and announced upcoming community-based initiatives, including festive activities and preparations for the grand Ekumfi Akwambo Kese celebration in 2026.

Community and Leadership Support

The groundbreaking ceremony drew chiefs, elders, clergy, youth groups, women’s associations, and security officials, all of whom hailed the initiative as a transformative step for Ekumfi. In a symbolic act of unity, Dr. Kwainoe joined hands with traditional leaders to turn the soil, officially marking the start of construction.

“Today, we are not just cutting sod,” Dr. Kwainoe declared. “We are planting the seeds of safety, dignity, and prosperity. Together, we are building not just a Police Headquarters, but a stronger future for Ekumfi.”

A New Dawn for Ekumfi

With construction now underway, residents are optimistic that the Police Headquarters will usher in a new era of peace, security, and socio-economic development, reducing crime and creating a safer environment for investment and community growth.
