250 Bags of Cocoa Seized in Elmina; Two Suspects in Custody

Cape Coast police have arrested two individuals suspected of being part of a smuggling syndicate involved in transporting cocoa beans and illicit drugs to neighbouring countries.

The suspects, identified as Andy Kwofie and Francis Armah, were apprehended on Sunday, June 8, 2025, during an ongoing smuggling operation in Elmina.

According to a statement from the Cape Coast Police Service, Kwofie was intercepted while driving a Hyundai truck with registration number CR-726-25. The truck was loaded with 250 bags of cocoa beans.

During initial interrogation, Kwofie disclosed that the cocoa beans were intended for Francis Armah, who was allegedly responsible for transporting them across the border to unidentified neighbouring countries.

The truck has been impounded and is currently being held at the Regional Police Headquarters in Cape Coast. Both suspects are in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.

Authorities say efforts are underway to dismantle the broader smuggling network believed to be involved in the illegal trade of cocoa beans and narcotics.
