Four Ghanaian UN Peacekeepers Injured in Lebanon Missile Attack, Now Recovering — Defence Ministry

Four Ghanaian soldiers who sustained minor injuries during a missile attack on their base in southern Lebanon are stable and recovering well, according to an update from the Ministry of Defence.
The incident occurred on Friday, March 6, when the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) came under missile attack amid escalating hostilities between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.
In an earlier statement, the Ghana Armed Forces said the base was struck by two missiles between 17:45 and 17:52 local time during ongoing exchanges of fire in the area.
The military initially reported that two soldiers were critically injured while another suffered trauma.
However, in its latest update, the Defence Ministry said four soldiers who sustained minor injuries are now stable and recovering.
One soldier who suffered serious injuries to both legs and the hip was successfully evacuated to Beirut, where he underwent surgery on Saturday morning. Officials say the soldier is currently stable and recuperating.
The ministry also disclosed that 15 officers lost all their personal belongings after a fire broke out at their accommodation following the attack.
Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana has lodged a formal complaint at the United Nations Headquarters, stressing that all parties involved in the conflict must respect the neutrality and safety of peacekeepers operating in the theatre.
Ghana has also acknowledged expressions of solidarity from the international community. According to the Defence Ministry, Alice Rufo, France’s Minister Delegate to the Minister of Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs, reached out to Ghanaian authorities in a telephone conversation to convey support.
She indicated that France has similarly raised concerns at the United Nations, noting that French peacekeepers are also deployed in Lebanon.
The Government of Ghana expressed appreciation for the gesture and reiterated that all possible measures are being taken to protect Ghanaian troops serving under the UN flag.
