Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) has pushed back against what it describes as misinformation circulating on social media, insisting that no court order has been issued against the institution.
In a press release dated March 13, 2026, and signed by Registrar Emmanuel Baidoo, the University confirmed it had been served with a Motion on Notice for an Interlocutory Injunction filed at the High Court by Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, but stressed that the application was yet to be heard, let alone granted.
“As of the date of this release, the High Court has not granted any order of injunction against the University,” the statement read.
The application is scheduled to be heard on March 24, 2026.
GCTU clarified that under Ghanaian law, an interlocutory injunction only becomes operative when it is formally granted by a court, meaning the mere filing of such an application carries no legal force.
The University used the release to urge the public to disregard posts on social media suggesting it had already been restrained by the courts, saying its actions and directives remain fully in force.
“GCTU therefore urges the public to disregard misinformation circulating on social media suggesting that the University has been injuncted by the Court. The University’s actions and directives remain in force,” the statement added.
The development is the latest in an ongoing governance dispute between Prof. Afoakwa, the University’s embattled Vice-Chancellor and the GCTU Governing Council, which moved to remove him from office earlier this year. Prof. Afoakwa has since gone to court challenging what he describes as his unlawful removal, and is seeking restoration to the position.
The University said it would continue to follow due legal process and promised further updates should there be any material developments in the matter.
