The Ghana Muslim Mission has appealed to the government to collaborate with the Mission to establish Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in Muslim communities within the Central Region.

This call was made at the Mission’s Annual Regional Conference and Qur’anic Recitation Competition held in Mankessim. Addressing the gathering, the General Secretary of the Ghana Muslim Mission, Alhaji Abubakar Kwame Essuman, emphasized that the time has come for young people within Muslim communities to gain greater access to skill training opportunities.

Speaking on the theme, “Integrating Islamic Values into Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for Economic Growth and Development in Muslim Communities,” Alhaji Abubakar Kwame Essuman highlighted the importance of technical and vocational education in national development.

He noted that TVET provides hands-on, practical skills in areas such as carpentry, welding, agro-processing, electrical engineering, ICT, and solar installation. According to him, these are the tools that empower individuals, strengthen enterprises, and uplift communities—an approach that has contributed significantly to the development of countries like Germany and Turkey.

Alhaji Essuman further stressed that in Ghana, TVET and STEM have been recognized as key drivers of economic growth, particularly in reducing youth unemployment and fostering self-reliance. He explained that the Mission’s push for TVET is not about training people for minor job roles but about equipping them to create jobs, run businesses, and serve their communities. For Muslim communities, he added, this mandate is not only economic but also ethical, communal, and spiritual.

The Central Regional Chief Imam of the Ghana Muslim Mission, Alhaji Mohammed Suleman, expressed appreciation for the government’s apprenticeship programs aimed at empowering the youth. He encouraged that adequate tools and equipment be provided to participants to ensure the program fully addresses their needs.

The Nkosuohemaa of Enyan Obontser, Nana Ehuramah I, also urged Muslim youth to prioritize technical training and formal education as key pathways to improving their living standards. She encouraged the youth to deepen their commitment to worship, noting that Islam continues to attract new converts due to the strong dedication and discipline observed among Muslims.

Nana Ehuramah I appealed to the government to support the establishment of TVET facilities in Muslim institutions to enhance skill development and improve livelihoods within Muslim communities.
