Ghana is set to take centre stage on the continental leadership and communication calendar as Accra prepares to host the 12th District 94 Toastmasters International Conference, a major four-day gathering expected to draw more than 500 delegates from across West and Central Africa, as well as the global diaspora.

Scheduled from April 29 to May 2, 2026, the high-profile conference will be held under the theme “Lead With Purpose, Speak to Impact.” The opening ceremony will take place at the Destiny Arena in Accra, with additional breakout sessions, workshops, and networking engagements hosted at selected venues across the capital.

Delegates are expected from more than 12 West and Central African countries, including Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, and Ghana, alongside participants from Europe and other parts of the diaspora.

A Premier Platform for Leadership and Communication Excellence

The District 94 Conference has established itself as one of the region’s foremost platforms for leadership development, public speaking mastery, and professional networking. The 2026 edition is expected to deepen that legacy, with a robust programme addressing some of the most pressing global and regional issues.

Key discussions will centre on the impact of artificial intelligence on leadership and communication, cultural transformation, economic transitions, and shifting geopolitical realities in Africa and beyond.

Participants will engage in keynote addresses, leadership masterclasses, speech contests, panel discussions, and strategic networking sessions, all designed to strengthen communication competence and leadership capacity across the district.

Leadership Speaks Ahead of Accra 2026

District Director of District 94, Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) Fatou Sakho, described the upcoming conference as a defining moment for the region:

“Accra 2026 will not just be a conference—it will be a convergence of cultures, communication, and courage, where stories meet strategy and purpose meets impact. Ghana is ready. District 94 is ready. And Africa is ready to host the world. Come experience leadership the African way: warm, bold, and transformational.”

Conference Chair, Dr. Suzy Aku Puplampu, DTM, highlighted the significance of Ghana hosting the event for the second time in seven years:

“Hosting the 12th District 94 Toastmasters International Conference is a prestigious honour for Ghana, and a powerful reflection of the growing impact of Toastmasters across the region. This marks the second time Ghana has hosted the conference in seven years, following the landmark 2018 edition.”

Programme Quality Director, Ibrahim Sory Keita, DTM, emphasised the broader experience awaiting delegates:

“Our goal is to deliver an unforgettable Akwaaba experience for the more than 500 international delegates expected in Accra, while showcasing the warmth and hospitality that Ghana is celebrated for across West Africa.”

Veteran Ghanaian Toastmaster, Papa Arkhurst, DTM, also underscored the symbolic importance of the gathering:

“Africa is ready to lead with purpose and speak to impact. This is our moment to showcase three powerful forces: the internationally recognised Toastmasters culture of building leaders and communicators; the Akwaaba spirit and Ghanaian warmth that make every guest feel genuinely at home; and a bold expression of African excellence unlike anything the world has seen before.”

Contests, Culture, and Celebration of Excellence

A major highlight of the conference will be the International Speech Contest and International Evaluation Speech Contest, where top speakers from across the district will compete for regional honours.

Beyond the formal sessions, delegates will be immersed in curated cultural experiences, tourism excursions, and high-level networking events. The conference will also feature a Hall of Fame Recognition Ceremony and a prestigious Gala Night, celebrating outstanding achievements in leadership and public speaking across District 94.

High-Level Industry Participation

The event is expected to attract influential guest speakers and industry leaders, including:

Chief Alhassan Andani, Board Chairman, Ecobank Ghana

Lawyer David Dorte, AB & David Africa

Julian Opuni, Managing Director, Fidelity Bank Ghana

Kwamina Asomaning, Managing Director, Stanbic Bank Ghana

Their participation is expected to enrich discussions on leadership, governance, finance, and organisational excellence across Africa’s evolving economic landscape.

A Continental Moment for Leadership Development

The Accra 2026 Toastmasters Conference is widely regarded as one of the most significant leadership and communication development gatherings on the African continent this year. It represents a rare convergence of purpose, people, and possibility, bringing together emerging and established leaders committed to learning, collaboration, and transformational impact.

As Ghana prepares to welcome the world once again, Accra is poised to become a vibrant hub of ideas, culture, and leadership excellence—showcasing Africa’s growing influence in shaping global conversations on communication and leadership.
