Twifo Dwenndaama: Pupils Take Lessons in Community Centre Also Used for Funerals

Pupils of Twifo Dwenndaama D/A Basic School in the Twifo Atti Morkwa District of the Central Region are studying under dire conditions due to the lack of proper classroom blocks. The children currently take lessons in the local community centre, which also doubles as a venue for funerals and other gatherings — an arrangement residents say is negatively affecting the pupils’ education.
Hon. Augustine Appiah, Assemblyman for the Bimposo Nkwa Kyemaso Electoral Area, speaking to Tobinco Media Group’s Agyei Kwaku Mensah, appealed to the government and stakeholders for urgent support to improve educational infrastructure in the area. He lamented that none of the surrounding communities have access to modern school facilities, leaving many children to learn in makeshift structures or community centres.
“These children deserve a safe and conducive environment to study in, just like any other child in Ghana. Some have dropped out because the conditions are simply not favourable for learning,” Hon. Appiah said.
The Chief of Twifo Dwenndaama, Nana Afadzi, also joined the appeal, describing the current structure as dilapidated and unsafe. He called on the government to come to the aid of the community by providing a new classroom block to help keep children in school.
The PTA Chairman and SMC Chairman echoed similar sentiments, urging the government and benevolent organisations to prioritise the construction of a proper school building for the pupils of Twifo Dwenndaama.
Residents say they fear that if no action is taken soon, more children may drop out of school entirely, dashing the hopes of nurturing future leaders from the community.
