Mahama Pledges Completion of 35 Agenda 111 Hospitals by End of 2026

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government will prioritise the completion of 35 hospitals under the Agenda 111 programme, as part of a revised strategy to phase out the project and ensure stalled facilities are put into use.

Addressing the Northern Regional House of Chiefs during a courtesy call on Friday, May 15, he expressed concern about the initial decision to construct 111 hospitals simultaneously without proper phasing and sequencing of implementation.

According to President Mahama, the approach resulted in several facilities stalling at different stages of completion, with some contractors reportedly abandoning sites after receiving mobilisation funds.

He noted that the government is now pursuing accountability measures to recover funds from defaulting contractors.

“Government this year is going to put money in and continue them and complete them, and then adequate provision will be made in the next budget to clear another batch,” he disclosed.

The President further disclosed that the government is also engaging faith-based organisations and other private health operators to adopt some of the hospitals and support their completion and management, as part of efforts to expand access to healthcare delivery across the country.

He stressed that the revised approach forms part of a broader commitment to ensure value for money in public infrastructure projects, particularly in the health sector, and to avoid the accumulation of uncompleted facilities that strain public resources without delivering services to communities.
