Mahama’s Aide Threatens To Sue Abronye Over Salary Claim, Demands GH¢10m In Damages

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Aide and Presidential Advisor to President John Dramani Mahama, has threatened legal action against Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, over what her lawyers describe as “false, reckless, and malicious” remarks.

In a legal notice dated April 3, 2025, and issued by R.O. Solomon Consulting, Mogtari’s legal team is demanding a full retraction, public apology, and a compensation payment of GH¢10 million for defamation.

The controversy stems from statements Abronye made during an interview on Net 2 TV on March 26, 2025.

In the televised discussion, the outspoken NPP regional chairman alleged that Mogtari had rejected a ministerial appointment in favour of a less demanding presidential staffer role, which he claimed comes with a hefty monthly salary of GH¢95,000.

He further claimed that this supposed financial comfort had made her “disrespectful to everyone in Ghana.”

According to the legal notice, these remarks have since been widely circulated across various platforms, including GhanaWeb and social media, leading to “serious embarrassment and damage” to Mogtari’s reputation.

The letter accuses Abronye of spreading misinformation with no factual basis, asserting that the details of Mogtari’s appointment are a matter of public record and could have easily been verified.

“Our client’s reputation, both personally and professionally, has come under attack due to your statements,” the letter reads.

“She has received numerous phone calls and messages from friends, family, and colleagues questioning the claims.”

Mogtari, through her solicitors, is demanding that Abronye issue a retraction and an unqualified apology. The apology is to be published on all platforms that originally aired or shared the remarks, including Net 2 TV, GhanaWeb, MyJoyOnline, Channel One TV, and Citi FM.

Should Abronye fail to comply with the demands, the legal team has indicated its readiness to initiate court proceedings to seek redress for what they describe as a calculated attack on her integrity.
