‘May God Bless Their Souls’ – Mahama Announces State Funeral for Helicopter Crash Victims

President John Mahama has announced that a state funeral will be held in honour of the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in Wednesday’s helicopter crash.

Speaking from the Jubilee House on Thursday, 7 August 2025, the President described the victims as “heroes” and called on Ghanaians to join in mourning their loss.

“For the sacrifice they made in service to our nation, they deserve our highest honours,” President Mahama said in his first public address since the incident.

He revealed that an inter-denominational state funeral would take place on Friday, 15 August at the Black Star Square in Accra, where the nation will come together to pay its final respects.

The President extended his condolences to the bereaved families and urged the country to stand united during this period of national sorrow.

“My brothers and sisters, countrymen and women, may God bless their souls,” he said solemnly, calling for continued prayers and support for the grieving families.

This announcement comes a day after the nation was thrown into mourning following the fatal crash. The government has since declared three days of national mourning from 7 to 9 August.

The upcoming funeral at the Black Star Square is expected to be attended by senior government officials, religious leaders, the security services, and members of the public.
