In a proactive effort to elevate educational standards and address pressing operational bottlenecks, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Mfantseman, Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah (popularly known as “Mfantseman KK”), convened an emergency meeting with leadership from the Mfantseman Municipal Education Directorate and SHS heads.

The emergency stakeholder meeting, held on Monday, September 28, provided a platform for municipal authorities, education officials and school heads to assess ongoing academic activities, examine infrastructure and logistical challenges, and identify practical interventions to improve educational outcomes across the municipality.

During the engagement, school heads outlined several challenges confronting their respective institutions and affecting the effective delivery of education.

Among the key concerns raised were inadequate classroom facilities, shortages of dual desks and other furniture, and deteriorating school structures requiring urgent attention.

The school heads also highlighted logistical constraints, including delays in the provision of essential teaching and learning materials, as well as transportation and administrative challenges affecting school supervision and inspection.

Other concerns centred on student welfare and social challenges, including truancy, encroachment on school lands and other social problems that continue to affect pupil retention, discipline and the overall learning environment.

Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to making education a priority in the municipality, describing quality education as a critical foundation for sustainable local development.

He assured the education authorities and school administrators that the Assembly would continue working with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and relevant central government institutions to mobilise and direct resources towards schools facing critical needs.

The MCE also emphasised the importance of closer collaboration among the Assembly, the Education Directorate, school heads, teachers and communities in addressing challenges confronting schools.

The school heads, in response, commended Hon. Acquah for his accessibility, swift response to concerns and continued interest in the welfare of teachers and pupils across the Mfantseman Municipality.

They said the MCE’s direct engagement with education stakeholders demonstrates a hands-on approach to addressing challenges at the school level and provides encouragement to frontline educators.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to strengthen collaboration between the Municipal Assembly and education authorities through a joint monitoring framework to track progress on identified challenges and ensure that agreed interventions are implemented.

Periodic review meetings will also be held to assess progress and identify further measures needed to improve school infrastructure, logistics and the overall teaching and learning environment in the Mfantseman Municipality.
