Basic education in the Mfantseman Municipality has received a major boost following the commissioning and handover of a newly constructed six-unit classroom block to Mfantsiman M/A Basic School.

The facility was officially commissioned on Friday, October 2, 2026, by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Mfantseman Constituency, Hon. Dr. Ebenezer Prince Kojo Arhin, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah, popularly known as Mfantseman KK.

The ceremony brought together municipal authorities, traditional leaders, education officials, community stakeholders, teachers, parents, and residents to mark the completion of the project.

Speaking on behalf of Okogyeman Okese Essandoh IX, Omanhen of the Nkusukum Traditional Area, Nana Kwa Bonko V, Chief of Biriwa and Nkusukum Akobeahen, expressed appreciation to the government, the MP, and the MCE for their commitment to improving educational infrastructure in the area.

Nana Kwa Bonko V noted that with qualified teachers already available at the school, the community expects the new facility to contribute to improved academic performance and stronger examination results.

He encouraged teachers and school authorities to make effective use of the infrastructure and ensure that the investment translates into meaningful educational outcomes for pupils.

While commending the Municipal Assembly for providing the new classroom block, representatives of the Mfantseman Municipal Education Directorate appealed for additional support to extend electricity to the facility and provide toilet facilities for the school.

The Directorate said the provision of these essential amenities would help create a more conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.

It also urged teachers to continuously improve their pedagogical skills to enhance learning outcomes.

The pupils, meanwhile, were encouraged to demonstrate discipline, punctuality, and academic commitment, with the Directorate stressing that the new infrastructure should be reflected in improved academic performance and responsible behaviour.

Responding to the concerns, MCE Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah assured the school authorities and community leaders that the Assembly would work towards providing electricity and sanitation facilities in due course.

Hon. Acquah also highlighted a number of infrastructural projects undertaken across the Nkusukum Traditional Area during his tenure, reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to equitable development across the municipality.

In his remarks, MP for Mfantseman, Hon. Dr. Ebenezer Prince Kojo Arhin, expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the introduction of the 20 percent Legacy Projects allocation under the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), which he said contributed significantly to the execution of the classroom project.

Dr. Arhin also highlighted what he described as key achievements in the constituency’s health sector, noting that no previous political administration in the history of the Mfantseman Constituency had commissioned three health centres within a two-year period.

He said the health facilities, together with other ongoing development projects in the Nkusukum Traditional Area, formed part of efforts to improve access to essential social infrastructure across the constituency.

The MP urged the pupils to take their education seriously, maintain discipline, and allow the improved learning environment to motivate them to pursue academic excellence.

He further called on local education authorities to strengthen support systems to enable more female pupils from the basic school to gain admission to Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School and pursue their secondary education.

The commissioning of the new classroom block is expected to provide additional learning space for pupils and contribute to efforts to improve the quality of basic education in the Mfantseman Municipality.
