Mother Arrested for Allegedly Attacking 12-Year-Old Son with Cutlass

A 12-year-old boy is currently receiving medical care after allegedly being attacked by his mother at Adeemera Electoral Area in the Afram Plains North District of the Eastern Region.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Mavis Vinyo, a matron at St. Mary’s Vocational Institute in Donkorkrom, was reportedly angered when her son picked up her mobile phone to play music while she was cooking.

According to preliminary accounts, the confrontation quickly escalated, culminating in Ms Vinyo allegedly striking the boy on the head with a cutlass, inflicting serious injuries. A security officer who was on duty at the time intervened and rushed the injured child to the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

The incident was subsequently reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspect. Ms Vinyo is currently in police custody and is expected to be arraigned before a court in the coming days.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to determine any additional factors that may have contributed to the alleged attack.

The case has sparked concern among residents of the area, reigniting public discussion on child protection, anger management, and domestic violence within households. Authorities have assured the public that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate legal action taken in accordance with the law.
