The Mfantseman-Saltpond Development Alliance (MSDA), a non-profit organisation committed to advancing community development, has successfully celebrated its maiden Homecoming Festival in spectacular fashion.
The week-long festival, held from August 24–30, 2025, was themed “Reuniting Our Roots, Reimagining the Future.” It brought together indigenes, residents, and members of the Mfantseman diaspora in a colourful celebration of cultural heritage, unity, and collective vision for development.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Osagyefo Ernest De-Graft Egyir, Founder and President of MSDA as well as CEO of Network Ghana; Dr. Ellen Hagan, Group CEO of L’AINE Services, Co-founder of Legacy Girls’ College; Hon. Dr. Ebenezer Prince Kojo Arhin, MP for Mfantseman; Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority; Dr. Daniel McKorley, Founder and Group Chairman of the McDan Group; Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, Founder and CEO of the Special Group of Companies; and Prof. Ransford E. Gyampo, CEO of the Ghana Shipping Authority, among others.
The climax of the festival rekindled community spirit, deepened connections between the diaspora and the local community, and underscored the role of grassroots-driven initiatives in sustainable development.
As part of the celebrations, MSDA launched a major fundraising campaign to support transformative projects in Saltpond and the wider Mfantseman Municipality. The immediate priority is the commissioning of a sustainable water project for the Mfantseman Municipal Hospital, aimed at ending perennial shortages and improving healthcare delivery for patients, staff, and surrounding residents.
Speaking at the ceremony, Osagyefo Ernest De-Graft Egyir expressed heartfelt gratitude to stakeholders, dignitaries, and especially the diaspora community, for their unwavering support. He emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in shaping the town’s future:
“With unity, we can turn our challenges into engines of growth. This festival is not just a cultural homecoming but a call to action for every son and daughter of Mfantseman.”
The Homecoming Festival also featured cultural performances, educational forums, networking sessions, and exhibitions that showcased Mfantseman’s unique history as the birthplace of many national firsts—including Ghana’s first political party office, first oil rig, and first post office.
Beyond its cultural significance, the event reaffirmed MSDA’s mission to bridge tradition with modernity, reimagine opportunities for the youth, and lay the foundation for inclusive and sustainable development in Mfantseman.
