The Nkusukum Traditional Council has extended financial support to the three victims affected by the collapse of the ancient sacred tree in the Nkusukum Traditional Area, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of residents impacted by the tragic incident.

The presentation was made on Sunday, July 12, when a delegation from the Traditional Council visited the affected families. Although the amount donated was not disclosed, the financial assistance is expected to help the beneficiaries rebuild their businesses and homes, while also supporting the recovery of the victim who sustained injuries during the incident.

The delegation was led by the Omanhen of the Nkusukum Traditional Area, Okogyeman Okese Essandoh IX, who expressed gratitude to the people of Nkusukum for maintaining peace, unity and solidarity in the aftermath of the unfortunate incident.

Nkusukum Odambea Festival 2026 to Mark Golden Jubilee

The Omanhen further announced that preparations are underway for the 2026 Nkusukum Odambea Festival, which will mark the 50th anniversary of the prestigious cultural celebration in Saltpond.

He appealed to Ghanaians, citizens of Nkusukum at home and abroad, and all lovers of Ghanaian culture to prepare to participate in what he described as a historic golden jubilee celebration.

According to him, the Traditional Council is committed to making the 2026 Odambea Festival one of the biggest and most memorable editions in the festival’s history.

Victims Express Appreciation

One of the beneficiaries, Auntie Efua Gyasiwah, popularly known as “Kako”, and mother of Christopher Essel, expressed profound appreciation to the Traditional Council for its continuous support since the day of the incident.

She said the Council had not abandoned her son and family, adding that the timely assistance had given them hope during a difficult period. She prayed for God’s abundant blessings upon the Omanhen and the entire Nkusukum Traditional Council.

Another beneficiary, Madam Beatrice Ampiah, affectionately called “Mama,” also conveyed her heartfelt gratitude after receiving the donation.

The devastating incident, which occurred nearly three weeks ago, left her counting significant losses after the ancient sacred tree, coupled with a torrential downpour, destroyed her fashion design centre, sewing equipment, customers’ garments and several personal belongings.

She described the Traditional Council’s swift intervention as a great source of encouragement, saying the financial support would help her begin the difficult process of rebuilding her business and restoring her livelihood.

The presentation underscores the Nkusukum Traditional Council’s commitment to providing relief to affected residents while strengthening community solidarity in the face of adversity.
