NPP FLAGBEARERSHIP RACE: Dr Bawumia Storms Central Region with Party Bigwigs to Canvass for Votes

Former Vice President and aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, has embarked on a two-day tour of the Central Region as part of efforts to consolidate his support base and win the confidence of party delegates ahead of the party’s upcoming presidential primaries.

The tour, which attracted several party stalwarts and bigwigs, underscored the growing momentum behind Dr Bawumia’s bid. Among the high-profile figures who joined him were Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, former Majority Leader and MP for Suame; Hon. Ophelia Mensah Hayford, former MP for Mfantseman; Hon. Justina Marigold Assan, former Central Regional Minister; and Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, former Transport Minister, among others.

Addressing party executives and delegates in Cape Coast, Dr Bawumia reminded members of his long-standing sacrifices and contributions to the party’s victories, particularly in helping the NPP wrestle power from the NDC in the 2016 general elections after eight years in opposition. He urged delegates to entrust him with their mandate, stressing that he remains the most competent candidate to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.

Dr Bawumia further emphasized that the flagbearership contest should not be reduced to a display of wealth, but rather a battle of vision, competence, and innovative ideas capable of driving Ghana’s progress. He insisted that his track record and forward-thinking policies distinguish him from his competitors.

The tour is seen as a crucial step in strengthening Dr Bawumia’s support across the Central Region, a politically significant area often described as one of the country’s swing regions.
