The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to meet with all presidential hopefuls who have publicly declared their intention to contest the party’s 2026 flagbearer race. The move is aimed at easing growing tensions and reinforcing internal discipline ahead of the primaries.
In a statement released on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said its National Steering Committee had resolved to convene a joint meeting involving all aspirants, the Steering Committee, and the National Council of Elders.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 3, 2025.
According to the statement, the purpose of the engagement is to “discuss matters of mutual interest” and strengthen party unity as preparations for the presidential primaries intensify.
In a related development, the party has referred its Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe—popularly known as Abronye—to the National Disciplinary Committee. He is accused of violating party directives by making “unguarded public comments” despite previous warnings from the National Council.
The party also issued a strict directive for the immediate cessation of all caucuses or private meetings between presidential aspirants and current or former party executives or government appointees. It emphasized that such activities contravene established party regulations.
“The Party wishes to once again remind members of their constitutional obligation to protect party unity, to abide by and publicly support the Party’s decisions, and to refrain from engaging in acts that threaten party cohesion,” the statement added.
