The police have forwarded the case docket involving Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) headmaster Zakaria Abdulai to the Attorney General for study and advice following investigations into a rape complaint filed by a student.

Bekwai Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Lloyd Baidoo, disclosed this on JoyNews’ Top Story on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

According to him, the Ashanti South Police Command has completed its investigation into the complaint and is awaiting further directives from the Attorney General.

“They have done the investigation, and we have forwarded the case docket to the Attorney General for study and advice. And we, the police, or the Ashanti South Command, are only to patiently wait for further instruction by the Attorney General,” he said.

ASP Baidoo added that the police would act in accordance with any directives issued by the Attorney General.

Police Docket Covers One Complaint

The police spokesperson clarified that the docket submitted to the Attorney General concerns a single complaint filed by a student on August 4, 2026.

He explained that the investigation does not cover all the other allegations reportedly involving students at the school, including claims by 19 girls.

“In respect of the other matters involving the 19 girls that you are talking about, if they come to police notice, police will subsequently move in and investigate the matter,” he said.

His comments indicate that the case currently before the Attorney General relates specifically to the individual complaint investigated by the police, while other allegations would require further police action.

ASP Baidoo urged students who claim to have suffered abuse to lodge formal complaints at their nearest police stations to enable the police to investigate the allegations.

“As to the series of cases they are now informing us of, all those parties can just make an official complaint to the nearest police station, and we’ll ensure that we take over and investigate thoroughly,” he said.

He further indicated that a report compiled by the Ghana Education Service (GES) committee could be submitted to the police and treated as a complaint to facilitate additional investigations.

GES Interdicts Headmaster Amid Allegations

The allegations involving the Obuasi SHTS headmaster have generated widespread public concern, with at least 19 girls reportedly alleging abuse.

The Ghana Education Service has interdicted Mr Abdulai as investigations into the matter continue.

The Education Ministry has also directed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate the allegations.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed Mr Abdulai to step aside from the Juaben Constituency Chairmanship race pending the outcome of the ongoing processes.

The submission of the police docket to the Attorney General marks another stage in the handling of the complaint filed on August 4, 2026.

Any further action by the police will depend on the advice and directives received from the Attorney General.
