Mid-Year Budget Review Deserves 99.9% for Addressing Ghana’s Needs – Political Analyst

Political analyst and economist, Mr. Alex Emmanuel Nti, has lauded the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for what he describes as a “remarkably well-thought-out and people-centered” Mid-Year Budget Review presented to Parliament on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
Speaking in an interview with Adom Nanaa Odiasempa Paa Solo Savvy on Obrumankoma FM, a Mankessim-based radio station on Friday, July 25, 2025, Mr. Nti gave the budget a near-perfect score of 99.9%, describing it as one of the most comprehensive and realistic fiscal documents Ghana has seen in recent times.
He praised the Finance Minister, Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, for articulating the pressing needs and aspirations of Ghanaians, while also addressing key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, energy, job creation, roads and other infrastructure development.
“This is not just a budget review for numbers’ sake. Dr. Ato Forson demonstrated a deep understanding of the socioeconomic challenges facing the country and offered clear, pragmatic steps to tackle them. From targeted interventions in agriculture to youth employment strategies, the presentation was forward-looking and grounded in the reality of our economy,” Mr. Emmanuel Nti stated.
He noted that the budget review took into account the rising cost of living, youth unemployment, and the need for inclusive growth—issues that affect the daily lives of Ghanaians across all regions.
Mr. Nti also applauded the government for its commitment to fiscal discipline, even as it prioritizes social spending and capital investments. He highlighted the government’s decision to reduce non-essential expenditures, expand domestic revenue mobilization, and streamline public sector spending as signs of responsible governance.
In his view, the budget reflects “a careful balance between economic recovery and social protection.” He further urged all stakeholders, especially Parliament, to give the budget review bipartisan support to ensure smooth implementation of the outlined policies and initiatives.
“It’s time we shift from partisan politics and focus on national interest. What Dr. Forson presented is not an NDC budget—it’s a Ghanaian budget. And it deserves the support of all well-meaning citizens and policymakers,” Mr. Nti emphasized.
The 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review comes at a critical time as the country navigates its post-COVID recovery path, global economic uncertainties, and efforts to stabilize the Ghana cedi. The review has sparked widespread public interest, with many commending its clarity and emphasis on local productivity and job creation.
