Residents of Benso Appeal to Government for Road Rehabilitation and Development [PHOTOS]

Residents of Benso, a community in the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area of the Western Region, have made a passionate appeal to government to rehabilitate their deplorable road network and provide the area with much-needed infrastructure.

The Nsafoahene of Benso, Nana Kwabena Ayebin II, who led the appeal, lamented that despite Benso being endowed with rich natural resources, the level of development in the community remains very low.

Speaking to Tobinco Media Group’s Agyei Kwaku Mensah, Nana Kwabena Ayebin II noted that the community continues to lag behind in terms of infrastructure, particularly in the area of roads. He stressed that major routes linking Benso to nearby towns — Kojokrom, Tarkwa, and Ateiku — are in terrible condition, making transportation and economic activities extremely difficult.

He therefore urged government to give urgent attention to these roads, as well as the inner-town roads of Benso, to help improve living conditions and enhance economic growth. The chief also highlighted the need for the provision of other social amenities, including schools, markets, and accommodation facilities for workers, to uplift the community.

Adding their voices to the appeal, the Assembly Member for Benso, Mr. Eric Afful, and the Zonal Chairman, Mr. Samuel Hanson, admitted that while the local assembly has been making some efforts, much more support is needed from central government to address the community’s pressing challenges.

Some residents also shared their daily struggles, explaining that both in the rainy and dry seasons, the poor state of the roads affects their movement, access to healthcare, and general economic activities.

The people of Benso are therefore calling on government to prioritize their road network and other developmental needs to ensure the community gets its fair share of the national cake.
