The Chief of Egyaa Number Two in the Mfantseman Municipality, Nana Otswikuma VI, has called on government to prioritize the extension of developmental projects to rural communities rather than concentrating investments largely in urban centres.
According to the traditional leader, many rural areas continue to lag behind in infrastructure and social amenities because national development efforts are often focused on cities, leaving smaller communities neglected.
Speaking to Agyei Kwaku Mensah of Tobinco Media Group at Egyaa Number Two, Nana Otswikuma VI noted that the Anomabo Traditional Area comprises about sixty towns and villages, yet several of these communities still lack basic development projects.
He expressed concern that politicians actively visit every community during election periods to seek votes but fail to return to address the needs of the people after assuming office.
“We should not have to beg for our share of the national cake,” he stressed, urging authorities to ensure equitable distribution of development across the country.
The chief further highlighted the economic potential of Egyaa, which is widely known for its thriving octopus trade. However, he observed that poor packaging practices are limiting the market value of the product.
Nana Otswikuma VI therefore advised women engaged in the business to improve the packaging and hygiene standards of their products to make them more attractive to buyers and competitive in wider markets.
He emphasized that improved packaging would not only enhance product appeal but also increase revenue and support local economic growth within the community.
