Slow Response from Controller and Accountant General’s Office Unacceptable – Abena Osei Asare

Former Deputy Finance Minister and Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Abena Osei Asare, has voiced concerns over delays attributed to the Controller and Accountant General’s office, calling for more efficient handling of critical financial requests.

Speaking on The Pulse on JoyNews on Tuesday, August 26, Osei Asare highlighted what she described as sluggish responses that hamper timely action, emphasising the need for practical solutions to speed up processes.

“And also check the slow response of Controller and Accountant, because some of these things are as a result of the way Controller and Accountant General also manages some of the responses sent to him or requests of these natures are sent to him,” she remarked.

She revealed that during recent engagements, she urged officials to adopt more efficient communication methods. “Yesterday I kept telling him, give us something that will work, an e-mail, we send all the evidence. Email will not take two or three days to travel,” she said.

Osei Asare explained that once the evidence is received electronically, it can be swiftly verified against hard copies held in the system. “If it is right, just go ahead and do it. Because that is your mandate anyway,” she stressed.
