Sports Minister Rallies Support for Black Queens Ahead of WAFCON 2025

Sports Minister Kofi Adams has sent a heartfelt message of encouragement to the Black Queens as they prepare for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Ghana has been drawn into Group C alongside South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania.
Led by Head Coach Kim Lars Björkegren, the Black Queens are determined to secure a long-awaited return to the FIFA Women’s World Cup — their first since 2007.
In his message, the Minister praised the rising influence of women’s football in Ghana:
“In recent years, women’s football has become one of the brightest lights in our sporting landscape. From the Maidens to the Black Princesses and now the Black Queens, your performances have inspired the nation and shown what is possible through dedication and belief. You have been bold, focused, and fearless — and for that, we salute you.”
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing the women’s game:
“I want to reassure you that the Government remains fully committed to supporting women’s football at every level. You have done your part, and we will continue to do ours — through investment, opportunities, and the right structures to help you thrive. Your performances, resilience, and results have earned you that.”
The Black Queens will open their WAFCON 2025 campaign against defending champions South Africa on Monday, 7th July 2025.
