State-Assisted Funeral for Highlife Legend Dada KD Set for August 16

The late Ghanaian highlife icon, Nana Kwaku Duah, popularly known as Dada KD, will be laid to rest on Saturday, August 16, 2025, with a state-assisted funeral to be held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.

The announcement was made by the family during a solemn one-week observance held at the East Legon Executive Club, where friends, fans, and industry colleagues gathered to honour his memory.

The state-assisted burial is a reflection of the national significance of Dada KD’s contribution to Ghanaian music and culture. The ceremony is expected to attract a cross-section of society, including government officials, musicians, cultural figures, and fans who have followed his music career spanning over three decades.

Following the official ceremony in Accra, Dada KD will be interred in his hometown, Agona Asaaman, in the Central Region. A thanksgiving service will be held there on Sunday, August 17, to celebrate his life and legacy. The family has requested all mourners to wear black and white attire—a symbolic gesture representing both mourning and celebration.

Born in 1970, Dada KD became a household name in the 1990s, captivating audiences with his soulful voice, reflective lyrics, and his dedication to the preservation of traditional highlife music. His timeless hits—including Ene Menye, Wosuro A Wondi, Tekyere Ma, and Honey Love—cemented his place among the greats of Ghanaian music.

Beyond his musical talent, Dada KD was admired for his introspective and spiritual nature. In a notable 2020 interview, he made a prophetic statement about joining his late peers—Kofi B and Bishop Bernard Nyarko—in eternity. The remark, once dismissed as symbolic, has since resonated deeply with fans after his passing.

Dada KD died on May 17, 2025, following a short illness, just days before a highly anticipated performance in London alongside fellow legends Obrafour, Slim Buster, and Kojo Blakk. His sudden death at the age of 54 sent shockwaves through Ghana’s entertainment landscape, prompting an outpouring of tributes from across the country and beyond.

As Ghana prepares to bid farewell to one of its most beloved musical sons, tributes continue to pour in, celebrating Dada KD’s authenticity, lyrical brilliance, and enduring cultural impact. His music and message, loved across generations, will continue to resonate long after his passing.
