Stop Sleeping on the Job – Linda Ocloo Blasts Underperforming MMDCEs

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has issued a stern rebuke to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region, accusing some of them of inefficiency, complacency, and neglect of duty.
Addressing the media and MMDCEs at a high-level meeting in Accra on Thursday, August 28, Madam Ocloo expressed frustration that the lack of commitment on the part of certain chief executives was slowing down government’s development agenda and crippling efforts to resolve pressing challenges in the region.
“Let me go straight to say that I am disappointed at the level of inefficiency and complacency exhibited by some of our chief executives. At this stage, excuses are nothing but an embarrassment to the people we serve,” she declared.
She cautioned that leadership must be measured by results and tangible impact, not by titles, offices, or privileges.
“Leadership is not about sitting in offices and enjoying the perks of your position. It is about delivering results, and right now, many of you are simply sleeping on the job,” she said emphatically.
The Regional Minister called on the MMDCEs to wake up to their responsibilities and renew their dedication to the people they represent, noting that citizens expect accountability, efficiency, and visible development at the local level.
Her remarks come amid growing public concern over sanitation, poor road networks, and underdeveloped infrastructure in parts of the Greater Accra Region, with many residents questioning the commitment of their local leaders.
By challenging her subordinates to step up, Madam Ocloo signaled that non-performance would no longer be tolerated, urging the MMDCEs to “match words with action” and justify the trust reposed in them by government and the people.
