Truck Pusher Found Dead in Uncompleted Building at Mankessim Market

A 50-year-old truck pusher, identified only as Mr. Ofori, has been found dead in an uncompleted building at the Mankessim Market in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.

According to reports, the deceased, who had lived and worked at the market for over 15 years, originally relocated from Obuasi to Mankessim in search of greener pastures after facing severe financial difficulties. He made a living by pushing trucks for traders but had in recent months fallen gravely ill, rendering him unable to continue his work.

Market women who knew him well said Mr. Ofori became increasingly dependent on traders for food and financial support. Sadly, on Monday, September 1, 2025, around 3 p.m., he was spotted in the abandoned building struggling for his life, but with no one to assist him, he passed away moments later.

Further information suggests that Mr. Ofori had been battling a hernia, which may have contributed to his sudden demise. He was also said to have a history of substance use, including cigarettes and marijuana, which could have worsened his condition.

The Assembly Member for Mankessim Old Nkusukum, Hon. Emmanuel K. Baiden, who expressed sorrow over the death, advised migrants working in Mankessim to ensure that their families are aware of their whereabouts. He explained that this would make it easier for relatives to be contacted in times of emergency. He also appealed to anyone with knowledge of Mr. Ofori’s family to inform them of the incident so they can claim his body for a proper burial.

Police officers, upon being notified, visited the scene and conveyed the body to the mortuary. They have since launched investigations to establish further details surrounding the death.
